The Year Was 1947…

The country was still adjusting from the aftermath of World War II. The United States and the Soviet Union were entering a Cold War as communism sought to advance. Israel was declared an independent nation, and prophetic preachers pointed believers to the beginning of the end times. In this cultural milieu, the members and friends of the Churches of God in North Carolina gathered at the Charlotte Campground on Wilkinson Boulevard in Charlotte, North Carolina, to reaffirm their confidence in God’s providence and their firm conviction that Jesus was coming back to earth again, soon.

You’re invited to take a look back at what God did on that hallowed ground. WE REMEMBER!

Thousands of sounds and voices of people who cared and shared their lives with me. I was blessed. I knew those were special times as I lived them, but I had no idea how special.

I remember. My grandfather, EW Williams, was the state overseer when they built the Charlotte campground. My Uncle (A. Padgett) had a cottage there. Lots of memories. They never knew the legacy they left or that I followed them into ministry.
— Marc Cutrell
I remember the sawdust/wood shavings back when I was little. I remember the Holy Ghost falling on the place, and folks would be kicking up the shavings. It never scared me as a small child. This was the norm for me.
— MonaLisa Childers
I helped build the tabernacle by mixing mortar, pitching bricks to the brick layers, and nailing down the roof. Pretty good for a 16-year-old.

I really loved those Charlotte Camp Meeting days. I am stronger in God today because of His blessings then.
